Mark Becker, a partner at C/D/H, will discuss Social Networking using Microsoft SharePoint 2010. While social networking is not new  -- SharePoint 2003 had My Sites, SharePoint 2007 introduced Blogs, Wikis, Discussions and Surveys -- SharePoint 2010 improves and adds user tagging and rating. Is this just another nice set of features or will social networking finally take hold in business like it has on the Internet? Mark will review the new social networking features in SharePoint 2010, discuss their real-world applications and get into some of the SharePoint infrastructure requirements necessary to make it all work.

 

Dieter Schuller, of Radiant Logic, will discuss Using Virtual Directory to Integrate Identities for SharePoint. As enterprises derive more value from SharePoint and look to open it up to more constituents, managing authentication, authorization and identity administration becomes more complex.  Enabling access for all constituencies—employees, partners, vendors, and, in many cases, customers—and protecting content are critical to a successful SharePoint deployment.  While authentication and authorization are relatively simple processes when all the identity information is stored in a single data source (AD, LDAP or even a database), they become quite challenging when identity data is distributed across many AD forests or a variety of heterogeneous data sources. This presentation will provide a case study outlining how virtual directory was leveraged to aggregate and integrate users and groups from existing legacy data sources to provide a seamless, secure user experience in SharePoint.
